English music for choir and orchestra
Finchley Symphony Orchestra
Finchley Symphony Orchestra and Finchley Chamber Choir present a feast of music for summer by two of England’s greatest composers.
Vaughan Williams’ ‘Wasps’ overture fizzes from the start while his ‘Serenade to Music’ languidly evokes a summer night “How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon this bank!”
These pieces are teamed with one of Elgar’s most popular, the endlessly fascinating ‘Enigma’ Variations, and a comparative rarity, ‘The Music Makers’, a choral setting of ‘Ode’ by Arthur O’Shaughnessy. “We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams…”
The concert is conducted by David Lardi and is supported by the Elgar Society
