The Marches Choir and Sinfonia perform Puccini's Messe di Gloria

Marches Choir

On Saturday 6th April 2019, The Marches Choir, conducted by Alistair Auld, will present a glorious concert of exuberant choral and orchestral music. They will be accompanied, as always, by the Marches Sinfonia (leader Claire Tocknell) along with three professional soloists.

The concert will commence with several sacred choral works by Mozart, which are delightfully moving and full of melodic charm, and will be followed by his Horn Concerto No 3, one of the best loved works in the classical horn repertoire.

The programme will conclude with Puccini's Messe di Gloria, which he composed at the age of just 22. The work abounds with a youthful freedom of expression and explores a huge musical palate, with a wonderfully colourful orchestration, some rich and powerful choral writing together with some exquisite tenor and baritone solos. The later operatic style which defines Puccini’s greatness is evident on practically every page. It is an astounding achievement for a 22 year old.
