Spring Concert 2019
Winchester Philharmonic Choir
This third concert in the Winchester Music Club’s series of the complete masses of Joseph Haydn compares two of his ‘middle period’ masses with each other: the ‘Great Organ Solo’ Mass of 1770, and the ‘Mariazeller’ Mass, written just 12 years later in 1782. Alongside the two Haydn masses, soprano Katherine Crompton will sing ‘Exsultate Jubilate’, a justly famous solo motet by Haydn’s younger contemporary Mozart, originally composed for the great Italian castrato Venanzio Rauzzini. In the ‘Great Organ Solo’ Mass, the solo organ part will be performed by Benjamin Cunningham, Assistant Director of Chapel Music at Winchester College.
