The William Byrd Singers: Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom
William Byrd Singers
The William Byrd Singers, conducted by Keith Orrell, invite you to hear the rarely-performed "Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom" at 7.30 on Sunday 18 March at Christ Church, West Didsbury M20 2ZD.
Although short extracts are sometimes performed, it will be a rare treat for Manchester audiences to hear the complete work sung in old church Slavonic - look out for visual effects to give the concert an authentic atmosphere!
In 1910 Rachmaninoff composed this glorious unaccompanied setting to honour the fourth century saint whose name means "golden-tongued", ranging from almost whispered prayers to dramatic joyful outbursts.
We welcome Thomas Lowen as our bass soloist.
Tickets cost £10 (£9 concessions, £5 students) at the door or from choir members in advance.
We look forward to seeing you!
