Finchley Symphony Orchestra - Ravel, Debussy and Faure
Finchley Symphony Orchestra
Our May concert includes a feast of French music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There is a rare opportunity to hear Ravel’s jazz-influenced Concerto in G played by Asagi Nakata, a young Japanese pianist and multiple prize winner in international competitions. Alongside this will be more of Ravel’s elegant and exotic music: the suite Ma Mère l’Oye (‘Mother Goose’) and the baroque-flavoured Le Tombeau de Couperin, dedicated to friends who died in the Great War.
The programme is completed by Debussy’s sultry Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and the Dolly Suite by Fauré, which will surely bring back childhood memories for anyone over 40!
The concert is conducted by David Lardi.
