Cockermouth Harmonic Society
21 November 2016 COCKERMOUTH HARMONIC SOCIETY- FORTHCOMING EVENTS Issue 21 A Taste of Italy What better than a concert of wonderful Italian music from across the centuries to chase away the winter blues? On Saturday 28 January 2017 at 7.30pm in Christ Church, Cockermouth Cockermouth Choral Society will present a concert of music by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Donizetti, Puccini and other Italian masters. The programme includes Vivaldi Gloria, excerpts from the Monteverdi Vespers, Donzetti’s Miserere and Puccini’s rarely heard Requiem. The evening will close with the Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana. Ian Thompson will conduct the choir and the orchestra, the Lonsdale Baroque Ensemble. We will also welcome back to Cockermouth the soloists, Laurie Ashworth soprano, Sarah Jillian Cox, alto, Christopher Steele, tenor and Jonathan Millican, bass. Emily Robinson will also sing soprano solo and Ian Hare will play the organ. Or contact Janet Johnston (telephone 01900 825083 or email: ticketsales@cockermouthharmonic.org.uk) for further information. Note to Editors: Cockermouth Harmonic Society is the largest adult choir in Cockermouth with some 70 singing members. The choir performs the major choral repertoire and has a professional musical director and accompanist. Cockermouth Harmonic Society prepares for at least two major concerts a year. In addition it performs in Carlisle Cathedral and at other special events. Soloists and orchestral musicians are regularly engaged to perform at its concerts. In 2017 Cockermouth Harmonic Society will have been singing for 150 years! This will make Cockermouth Harmonics one of the oldest choirs in the country. A number of events will take during the year to mark this amazing achievement.
