A Light in the Darkness | choral music for Advent and Christmas

Londinium

Our festive programme traces the journey from Old Testament prophecy to the events of the Nativity in a superb selection of a cappella repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day. Highlights include Poulenc's lyrical 'Four Christmas Motets', music by Brahms, Byrd, Lassus, Mendelssohn, Mouton and Schütz, and, from our own time, works by James MacMillan and Cecilia McDowall. The programme closes with a rare performance of Schoenberg's glorious early masterpiece 'Friede auf Erden': an unforgettable, sumptuously-scored clarion call for harmony and brotherhood in a fractured world.

Wine and mince pies will be served in the interval.

Londinium is one of London's most versatile chamber choirs, noted for its vibrant performances of unusual a cappella repertoire. Diverse and innovative programmes bring together works from different periods and traditions to thrilling effect, in performances which have consistently won critical acclaim.
