BMG Federation Festival Weekend

British BMG Federation

A weekend of music on banjo, mandolin , guitar and other fretted instruments - download Syllabus Booklet and Booking Form at www.bmgfestival.org

Friday Evening Concert: ‘Heavy Classic’ - Malte Vief on guitar, Jochen Ross on mandolin and Matthias Hübner on cello, this band is to say the least impressive! Guitar and Bass magazine sums it up nicely “innovative, atmospheric and energetic… this is the affinity between heavy metal, rock and classical music re-plumbed… outstanding musicians with a unique world sound”.

Saturday Workshops: There are 18 workshops to choose from starting at 9.30 am with final ones finishing at 4:30pm. You will be able to attend a maximum of 4 workshops and still have time for lunch, refreshments and a bit of jamming in between!

Saturday Afternoon Concert: This will start after all workshops have finished and will consist of two parts: first part will provide a non-competitive forum for ensembles and orchestras to perform music on fretted instruments that is different in some way to what is usually performed. During the second part there will be performances by students from the guitar department of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and local guitar ensembles.

Saturday Evening Meal: This will be at the Thistle Hotel, Cambridge Street. We will meet in the Forest Suite at the hotel from 6.45pm and the meal will be served about 7pm. Places are limited to 200 and we expect it to be a sell-out.

Sunday Contests: Listen to some great fretted instrument playing from solos, duos, trios etc right up to full orchestras in the contests that will run all day.

Sunday Free Concert: This will take place after the final orchestral contest. Uniting two powerful voices with guitar and mandolin, Jenn Butterworth and Laura-Beth Salter are both key players in Glasgow’s world-renowned grassroots folk scene, with their new duo partnership channelling that tumultuous creative energy into a mix of Celtic and Americana material.
