Pink Singers go on tour with Coldplay

The Pink Singers, Europe’s oldest LGBTQ+ community choir, toured with Coldplay this summer on their Music Of The Spheres World Tour, performing for twelves nights in Hull and Wembley Stadium.

The choir performed their own rendition of Coldplay’s song Human Heart surrounded by giant red hearts lit up around the stadium, followed by Chris Martin and the band coming on stage to perform People of the Pride, the group’s LGBTQ+ rights anthem. The Pink Singers also sang backup vocals for feelslikeimfallinginlove, joined by the incredible Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, and created a special performance of Jupiter with The Love Choir.

They were supported by arranger John Metcalfe, who worked with musical director Olivia Doust to bring the songs to life and showcase the voices of the community choir. Doust said: 'Working with Coldplay to showcase the voices of our many talented and passionate choir members was a dream come true. It was a privilege to share the space with them and all those bringing the show to life. And performing to over 80,000 people each night is something I will never forget!'.

The choir performed in small groups to ensure as many members were able to contribute as possible, with 60 singers in total taking part. Chair of the choir, Zoe Johannes, said: 'This was a really unusual project for us, but such an amazing opportunity. We’re so grateful to Coldplay for supporting our choir members to shine on such a huge platform, and the opportunity to showcase LGBTQ+ visibility and inclusion. The project shows one of the many ways in which community choirs can model change, putting inclusion and visibility of queer identities centre stage.'.
