Inventory of Living Heritage – Orchestral Societies meeting (online event)

About the event:

A meeting for members of Orchestral Societies, to contribute to Making Music's submission of this valuable tradition to the inventory of Living Heritage.

The UK Government, with UNESCO in the UK, is collating an inventory of Living Heritage and inviting people practising a heritage cultural activity to put it forward for submission. Have a look at the excellent website where you can read explanations, guidance and see current expressions of interest: Welcome | Inventories of Living Heritage in the UK

The ethics of the inventorying process mean that it must be the practitioners (or their representative body) that submit the practice to the inventory. As we would consider ourselves the representative body for Orchestral Societies, we intend to make the submission. We have already submitted an Expression of Interest – you can view this here: View Living Heritage EOIs. But we need to get your input, and your consent, so that we can make a full submission responsibly and accurately. To understand more about the principles of community consent, watch this short video: Workshops | Community Consent & Submission Support

We invite any interested member of a Orchestral Society to come to this meeting and talk to us about the submission we intend to make for Orchestral Societies. Getting as many members of Orchestral Societies involved will help us to show we have community consent to submit on your behalf. Plus, we’ll run some activities so we can mine your expertise and ensure the wording of the submission is accurate and properly representative. If you are the historian or archivist for your group we are particularly keen to meet you.
