The Chamber Music Competition, run in association with Making Music, awards an outstanding young ensemble with performance opportunities.

With the support of Making Music, the competition is able to offer winners the opportunity to establish and develop a performance profile throughout the UK. Through our collaboration, Making Music member groups can book the winning ensemble for an exclusive fee under our discounted artist scheme.

The 2012 Chamber Music Competition

The Jacquin Trio (Jessica Grimes – clarinet, Zoe Matthews – viola, Charis Cheung – piano) is the winner of the 2012 competition, announced at the end of an exciting final round concert on 27 March.

2012 SMCC winning ensemble Jacquin TrioAs winners of the Royal College of Music Douglas Whittaker Ensemble Prize, the Jacquin Trio has performed regularly in London and across the UK. The ensemble has been awarded a place on the Live Music Now Scheme 2011-13 and was shortlisted for the 56th Annual Park Lane Group young artist series. In December 2010 the trio reached the finals of the 19th International Chamber Music Competition in Thessaloniki, Greece where it was awarded an ‘honorary mention’ by the jury. Since forming in September 2009, performing highlights include recitals at St James’s Piccadilly, the Deal Festival 2011, performing at the Schumann Festival at the Royal College of Music in March 2009 and being named semi-finalists of the Royal Over-seas League Competition.
