About the event:

What are some of the options for selling out your events? We hear from some professionals in this field, from Making Music members and from some of our corporate members.

How to sell out your events is one of your main concerns, as you have been telling us.

This event, the first of a series of three over the year, will kick us off thinking about how we present our events, the different audiences we may want to attract and how we can best speak to them and convert them to audiences.

We will hear from two experts, two Making Music members and two of our corporate members. The event will signpost you to relevant research, give you practical tips you can try and also facilitate discussion amongst you in breakout rooms.

Dr Sarah Price will speak about her research into the audiences of the 2023 Classical Sheffield festival and outline the different kinds of audiences and what type of events they would find of interest.

David Taylor will tell us about some of the tactics that will or won’t work as we market and promote our events – and what basic mistakes to avoid. You might enjoy his latest blog.

A long-standing member of The Pink Singers will speak about how they plan, produce and promote their events. We will also be hearing from Julia Murray of Huddersfield Choral about their recent changes to marketing and promotion, in particular developing their digital presence.

Corporate members Trybooking and Ticketsource will present on how they can support your ticket selling strategies and ambitions.

We'll talk about:

  • Different audiences and what they might be looking for from an event
  • The need to tailor the messaging and the sales channels according to different audiences
  • Different ticketing platforms available for use by members
  • Resources available from Making Music to support ticket selling strategies
  • Share experiences and models with other groups similar to yours

There will be an opportunity to ask questions via the chat function during the event. There will be a short break during the event.
