Handel: Messiah

More than 275 years have passed since the first performance of Messiah on April 13, 1742 in Dublin.  It was received by a rapturous audience and its popularity continues unabated to this day. Messiah remains at the heart of musical life, with its vibrant choruses – including the 'Hallelujah Chorus' - and poignant arias, of which 'I know that my redeemer liveth' and 'The trumpet shall sound' are best known.
