Kingston Choral Society Makes Merry in Surbiton this Christmas
Kingston Choral Society returns to St Andrew’s Church, Maple Road, Surbiton at 7.45pm on Saturday, 17 December, some three years since their last Christmas concert, before the pandemic hit. This will be the first choral concert at the church since it had to be closed this summer for roof repairs. Please note the change in venue (from St Mark’s).
Christmas is a time of celebration, and the concert will embody that spirit by featuring Make We Merry, a work by contemporary composer, David Bednall, alongside traditional Christmas Carols.
Make we Merry’s eight movements weave together texts from across the centuries to depict a host of emotions, from quiet expectance and gentle wonder to boisterous jubilation. The final movement brings back motifs from the opening and grows to a thrillingly climactic ending.
The audience will have the opportunity to join with the choir in singing some old favourites, and to enjoy drinks and mince pies in the interval.
Andrew Griffiths, the widely respected KCS musical director, will conduct and Gavin Roberts will perform the highly characterful organ accompaniment.
Make a note in your diaries to join KCS in Making Merry on 17 December.
