Bach Advent Cantatas – a Choral Meditation for Advent

Bach Advent Cantatas – a Choral Meditation for Advent

Sunday 12 December 2021, 7.30pm

St. Dunstan’s Parish Church Choir, in conjunction with the Mayfield Festival Baroque Orchestra and conducted by Andrew Benians, will perform excerpts from J. S. Bach’s Advent Cantatas for soloists, chorus and orchestra at St. Dunstan’s Church, Mayfield on the 12th of December. The music will be interspersed with reflections, readings and poetry selected and read by The Rt Revd Nicholas Holtam (formerly Bishop of Salisbury and the Church of England’s lead bishop on the environment) that reference Advent as both a time of expectation for the Second Coming of Christ and a season of penitence and reflection to precede the celebrations of Christmas.

So why not make a date in your personal advent calendar to escape the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle and take some time to enjoy awe-inspiring contemplative music in the beautiful setting of St. Dunstan’s Church, Mayfield?
