Maharaj / Devino Duo (flute and piano)

For the second concert of their 30th season the Middlewich and District Concerts Society is delighted to welcome the Maharaj / Degavino Duo. Meera Maharaj (flute) and Dominic Degavino (piano) both graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music and are both current postgraduate students in London, at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School.

Earlier this year, they won the Royal Academy of Music Flute Prize. They are passionate about chamber music and have performed extensively across the U.K. and Europe, including venues such as the Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Cadogan Hall and at the Edinburgh Festival.

They both share a love of jazz, as well as of contemporary classical music, and this shows in their programme. They are starting in true classical style with JS Bach's sonata in E major. Moving through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries there will be sonatas by Mélanie Bonis,  Sergei Prokofiev and Henri Dutilleux. The most recent, possibly jazz-inspired, piece is by Andy Scott, who is well-known to these audiences. This programme promises to provide a fascinating mix of styles.

The concert will be held in the Drama Studio of Middlewich High School,  King Edward Street / St. Anne's Walk, Middlewich, (CW10 9BE), on Saturday 16th November, 2019 at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are £10 (concessions) and will be available at the door.
