Prestbury Choral Society Concert: Music through the Ages

Celebrating the 800th Anniversary of St Peter’s Church, Prestbury, with Prestbury Choral Society: Music through the Ages

Prestbury Choral Society, who Zoomed their way through the lockdowns every week to sing a huge range of music, are now concert ready. Having a Musical Director (Gary Hulme) who can sing all four parts at pitch, play one part while singing another, lead each part in, and yet still manage to turn his own pages, made the pieces much easier to learn, even though we couldn’t hear one another. Now, after several weeks of ‘live’ rehearsals, it is our hope that our programme, designed to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of St Peter’s Church, will provide a broad and entertaining tapestry of choral music, both sacred and secular. As we progress from the 13th century to the present day, we will encounter some of the most beautiful, momentous and musically innovative repertoire ever composed.

The music will include pieces from Handel’s Coronation Anthems, Anthems and Madrigals of the Golden Age, Mozart’s Exulte Jubilate for solo Soprano, Ave Verum Chorus, Cantique de Jean Racine....and snippets of Gilbert and Sullivan, among others. Do come and join us for this wonderful celebration.
