The Best of Baroque

Join The Quayside Choir and guests for an evening of beautiful choral and instrumental music from the Baroque era. The headliner is the ever-popular Vivaldi ‘Gloria’. The wonderfully sunny nature of the Gloria, with its distinctive melodies and rhythms, is characteristic of all of Vivaldi’s music, giving it an immediate and universal appeal. We will also be singing Purcell’s uplifting ‘Come Ye Sons of Art’ written for Queen Mary’s birthday in 1694. We are delighted to have with us 3 vocal soloists – Nicola Burley, Cathy Murray and David Stewart – and The Aliquando Ensemble, with strings, trumpet, oboe, treble recorders and harpsichord, to give the music an authentic accompaniment.

Complementing the two main works will be choral pieces of the period, with a royal theme, and the quasi-Baroque, energetic 1st movement from Karl Jenkins’ ‘Palladio’, written in 1995. With the sparkling ‘Let the Bright Seraphim’ for trumpet and soprano soloist, a movement from Vivaldi’s oboe concerto and an opening trumpet piece calling us to the celebrations, this really is a programme not to be missed.
