Borealis Saxophone Quartet Recital

This remarkable young quartet has been around since 2010 when they formed at the Royal Northern College of Music. They have chosen a mixed repertoire including some well known standard works by Bach and Bernstein, but also contemporary music such as “Lost Bronze” a beautiful autumnal elegy, “Unrelenting Universe” a very fun and upbeat piece, and the Dubois Quartet which is one of the most popular saxophone quartets from the repertoire. This is very typically French (and slightly comedic).
In the second half, they are pushing the boat out with a number of more contemporary works, which are all highly melodic and accessible! “Agust” is a really beautiful soundscape by Olafur Arnalds, and “Mountain Roads” by David Maslankashows some really wonderful writing based on the music of J.S. Bach.
