Looking back over Queen Elizabeth II’s long 70-year reign, witnessing the joyful celebrations of her Platinum Jubilee, sadly followed by the solemnity and pageantry of her funeral, and then forward to King Charles III’s coronation in May 2023, it seems entirely appropriate for our 2023 Singing Day to explore the treasure trove of British ceremonial music specially composed over many centuries for royal occasions.
In addition to well-known works such as Handel’s Zadok the Priest and Parry’s I Was Glad, we’ll be singing anthems and motets by Wesley, Stanford and Purcell. Even if you already know the music well, Neil Taylor will find ways of improving your vocal technique and helping you deliver a performance fit for a king. Come and join us for a royal day of singing.
