Come and … Singalongelijah!

Felix Mendelssohn's masterpiece - the magnificent Elijah - is one of the most exciting choral works to sing. Join Worcester Festival Choral Society for a special, one-day workshop to learn and perform this great oratorio in the historic setting of Worcester’s College Hall.

This exhilarating day of music-making is led by Worcester Cathedral Director of Music Peter Nardone, with Worcester Cathedral Assistant Director of Music Christopher Allsop as accompanist.

No previous choral experience is needed to attend – but if you love singing and have some ability to read music, you may find the day more rewarding! Loan of a music score is included in the ticket price.

About Mendelssohn's Elijah:
Felix Mendelssohn’s dramatic, 1846 oratorio about Old Testament prophet Elijah was the Messiah of its day: a hugely popular choral work that cemented Mendelssohn’s position as one of the greatest composers of sacred music. Two thousand people attended its premiere at the Birmingham Festival, with Mendelssohn himself conducting. The Times reported: “The last note of Elijah was drowned in a long-continued, unanimous volley of plaudits, vociferous and deafening ... never was there a more complete triumph; never a more thorough and speedy recognition of a great work of art.” Today the variety, beauty and energy of Elijah’s many arias and choruses ensure it remains one of the most popular choral pieces.
