Mozart Requiem; Misericordias Domini; Symphony No 40
It was Joseph Haydn’s opinion that Mozart’s Requiem was alone sufficient to secure eternal fame for the composer. Mozart’s last composition, it is one of the most famous works in the choral repertoire. Its writing and completion is surrounded by intriguing mysteries to this day.
Misericordias Domini takes us back to earlier Mozart. Contrasting quiet reflective passages and rhythmic sections make this a short but beautifully written choral piece.
Symphony No 40 is arguably the most popular of Mozart’s 41 symphonies. It was composed in an exceptionally productive period of just a few weeks in the summer of 1788, when he also completed the 39th and 41st symphonies.
