The developers have now made a change to the way SMS messages (texts) are sent. This change affects who the SMS appears to be from. In the past, members have been able to send texts where the sending phone number is the mobile number of the member that was logged in doing the sending. However, the UK has tightened up the rules for bulk-sending SMS messages, and this is no longer possible.
All bulk-sent messages now must come from either a special phone number, registered to your account, or from a single word (like the name of the organisation). As this number, or word, must be the same for all groups using the Platform, we have opted to use a word related to music making - this word will be "HARMONY".
So, if you are planning on sending texts through your Platform, the SMS will be seen to be from "HARMONY" - it is therefore advisable that you let your members know to look out for this. Do note:
- Members won't know who sent the text, so it's advisable that you sign off the text with a name (if that's relevant).
- These texts cannot be replied to.
Please do also keep in mind that if you have the Making Music Platform App, then any message you send through the app is free and you can always see who sent it. If you are intesterested in getting the MMP App, do take a look at our website for more information, and then email us at platform@makingmusic.org.uk.
