Joining page top tips

Make it really easy for someone to find the joining information on your website. Ideally have a tab at the top of your home page called ‘Join’.  Make sure all of the following are clear on your ‘Join’ page:

  • Day, time and duration of your rehearsal
  • Location of your rehearsal. Ideally include a map and directions.
  • What someone would need to do to join your group (e.g. just turn up/ come along for 3 weeks then decide/contact our membership secretary.) Can you join at any point in the year, or only at the start of a new term?
  • What standard you need to be (open to all, able to read music, able to sight read, Grade 5 standard etc). Bear in mind that if someone has never done grade exams they might have no idea whether they are Grade 1 or Grade 3 or Grade 6 standard.
  • Whether or not there is an audition. If you don’t hold auditions, it’s worth spelling this out – some potential members might assume you do and be put off by this unnecessarily.
  • What the joining costs are/how frequently you pay/do you have a concession rate? For some potential members, this will be a factor in them deciding whether or not to join. Money can be a touchy subject, so it might not be something that people want to email or call you to ask explicitly about.
  • Contact details for someone to get in touch with about any questions.
