luminatus vocal ensemble

luminatus vocal ensemble is a highly acclaimed group based mainly in the East Midlands/East of England. In recent reviews The Fanfare magazine described a performance as ‘spellbinding’ and the Edinburgh Music review noted the combination of interesting repertoire, a ‘luminous’ sound and praised a ‘choir of exceptional ability’. The group’s ‘rich and full’ sound is derived from the quality of its singers, who are all established soloists. The group consists of between eight and sixteen singers, depending on repertoire. They work as ‘first amongst equals’, singing within the ensemble, or taking more extended solos as required. Listeners have responded positively to the ‘intense musicality’ of the ensemble, its ‘precision’ and ‘clarity of line’. The ensemble performs an eclectic range of repertoire, using a period instrument orchestra where required. Recent recordings have focused on newly discovered, or edited, Renaissance pieces. This has shone a light on relatively unknown composers, or neglected pieces by more established names. These discoveries are set alongside contemporary compositions, especially by female composers, highlighting links between what appear to be disparate styles.
