Festival Development Officer

We are seeking to appoint an experienced development worker to play a key role within the organisation, responsible for a wide-ranging programme of activities. This will involve project planning and management, administration, and the preparation of grant applications. The Development Officer will work on CoMA’s biennial Festival and associated strategies and activities that communicate CoMA’s aims, and help to increase its impact and strengthen its profile within the music sector and the wider public.

This job will suit someone with a passion for the arts, wanting to share their interest in new music in the context of helping develop an ambitious and innovative arts organisation.  S/he must be a strategic thinker, who can help develop funding approaches that will support key plans and projects, and an exceptional writer who can craft compelling proposals and reports. The postholder must also be a gifted and sensitive communicator, able, when required, to represent CoMA with major grant managers, donors and stakeholders.

This is an exciting time for CoMA with widening European links and interest in its programme developing further afield. In the first instance, working with the Director and Board, the focus will be on preparations for CoMA’s 4th biennial Contemporary Music for All Festival planned for March 2022, specifically

• Broadening its scope and reach through additional partnerships
• Devising a sustainable long term strategy
• Organising an international cross-sector event to launch the next Festival

CoMA  is the UK’s lead organisation promoting contemporary music through participation with an international programme of establishing contemporary music ensembles, commissioning schemes, education projects and digital initiatives. The overall aim is to help create a major shift in the appreciation of contemporary music, an aim it is committed to sharing with the whole of the music sector, through active partnerships with composers, artists and music and education organisations

This is a part-time (0.6 FTE) appointment, funded by Arts Council England, which will be within the range £15,600 to £18,000 (£26,000 to £30,000 pro rata) depending on experience. The appointment is for one year in the first instance, subject to a 3-month review.  CoMA operates with no fixed office, at present using Zoom for its team, panel and Board meetings, and therefore this role could suit a candidate from any region of the UK.
