Chair, The London Chorus

Application deadline:
Wednesday, 15 December 2021
Description of vacancy:

The London Chorus, formerly the London Choral Society formed in 1903, is one of London's leading amateur choirs.   Under the musical directorship of Ronald Corp OBE, the choir has nearly 100 members and promotes three or four concerts each year as well as undertaking paid engagements in major concert venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall.      The choir is managed by a Council of elected members and the new Chair will lead the Council, take the choir forward and promote its interests.  It is an unremunerated role but rewarding for someone who is interested in music and in supporting the performance of choral music.

More information about the London Chorus can be found at www.londonchorus.org.uk.   This autumn the choir will be performing Beethoven Missa Solemnis with the Royal Orchestral Society, three Classical Spectacular concerts promoted by Raymond Gubbay Ltd at the Royal Albert Hall, two charity carol concerts and Beethoven Ninth Symphony with two other choirs at the Barbican Centre.   In the New Year we will be preparing for a long-awaited performance of Bach's B Minor Mass at Southwark Cathedral in the spring.       The choir's rehearsal venue is in South Kensington.

The London Chorus is a company limited by guarantee which holds charitable status.   Its Patron is HRH The Duke of Gloucester.

The Council's operational business is managed by four sub-committees - concert, finance, marketing and remuneration - that report to the Council meetings, currently on a six weekly basis.   The AGM is held in February.
