Seeking composers/songwriters

Love Singing is a community engagement initiative by Love Music

Our aim is to promote and support creative, healthy singing communities across Scotland.

To do that, we are seeking 5 community choirs and 5 songwriters to create new works for all community choirs.

What are we offering?

A commission to write a song especially for community singers
An opportunity to develop your song in collaboration with your partnered choir
Support and mentoring from Stephen Deazley during the creation process to ensure maximum accessibility and impact for community musicians; help will be available to make a choral arrangement if you need it
Recording of your song by professional musicians
Wide publication of your song for use by other choirs
An opportunity to contribute to the resource recordings as a singer or musician, if appropriate

What are we looking for in a songwriter?

Based in Scotland
Successful applicants will already be working at a professional level as songwriters and will have created a body of original works
Willing to work with your partnered choir online, with our support where needed
Regular reflection and writing about your journey through the project
Desire to create music specifically for community singers of all abilities and levels of experience
The rights for the piece you make to be freely available for choirs across the country to access in perpetuity; the songs will be licensed under a Creative Commons Licence which means that anyone is welcome to share and adapt the songs, as long as they give appropriate credit and don’t make any money from them

Fee & expectations

The fixed commission fee of £2,000 includes: the writing of a new song, multiple meetings with your partner choir, admin and liaison with us, creating a choral arrangement of the song (we can support this process), written reflections for publication on our blog, contribution to our published learning resources, and the rights to publish the works for wider public use.

We will pay an additional fee for extra work over and above this, with details to be agreed on discussion throughout the project.
