Myriad is a small choir seeking tenors and basses. Formed about 10 years ago as a small a cappella ensemble of people who like each other and love singing choral music, we have retained that ethos and aim to have between 16-18 members who strive for excellence. In terms of musical ability, each person should be comfortable singing 1 or 2 to a part. Some sight-reading ability is required, and we expect singers to study music in advance to minimise note-bashing during our few rehearsals. Should you decide to audition, it would be with our musical director who is very talented, kind, generous and a delight to sing for. We are ambitious and, in the next year, as well as our usual concerts in London, our plans include a tour abroad.
Myriad gives about 3 concerts per year, with each performance preceded by 4-5 rehearsals. We also rehearse on the day of the concert which is usually on a Friday evening. Our rehearsals are at the weekends.
Myriad's repertoire ranges from early music to more contemporary choral music and our concerts are themed and comprise an eclectic selection of pieces. Our performances are almost all unaccompanied. Our subscription per project tends to be in the region of £45-£55 per person.
We rehearse in a stunning artist’s studio 5 minutes' walk from West Norwood train station, which has very frequent connections from Victoria. There are also excellent links from Brixton tube station and there are plenty of local buses. Our usual performance venue is a glorious (and warm) church in SE London located about 5 minutes’ walk from Sydenham Hill station. Our members travel to rehearsals and performances from all over London and SE England as all our locations are very easily accessible either by car or public transport.
