Celebrating reaching 4,000 members!

Making Music’s ever-growing community of leisure-time music groups from across the UK

Despite unprecedented disruption in recent years, leisure-time music performing and promoter groups continue to thrive in communities across the UK, and they come to Making Music for the support and guidance they need to run their activity. More members also mean Making Music has a strong collective voice for advocating on key issues that affect the leisure-time community. Here are some other ways Making Music has supported music groups in the last year:

  • produced a wide range of new resources with practical guidance on topics from finding sheet music to access and inclusion
  • held dozens of online meetups for groups to meet each other, discuss concerns and share ideas
  • engaged guest speakers for events on issues such as music education and finding volunteers
  • assisted many of our members to register as a charity
  • helped instrumental groups claim £160,000 through the Orchestra Tax Relief service
  • set 66 members up on their own Making Music platform, an online management software to help them manage and promote themselves more effectively
  • celebrated the creativity and talent of the leisure-time music community through the Making Music Awards.

Barbara Eifler, Chief Executive, said:

‘More and more music groups recognise Making Music as their natural home and hub, a great vote of confidence in the fantastic team supporting members with deep knowledge and enthusiasm week in, week out. At Making Music, we all believe in the value of leisure-time music groups for individuals and communities and are proud to play our part in supporting and championing them in many ways.’
