Climate emergency: what can music groups do? (online event)

Registration is closed for this event
First sentence/ quick summary

About the event:
Climate change is now universally recognised as an emergency, with the United NationsCOP26 conference in Glasgow in November further raising the profile of this issue.. But what can music groups do about climate change? And do their actions have any impact? Join an inspiring panel to hear practical ideas and repertoire suggestions of how you can get involved.

Four inspiring speakers will paint a picture and give you ideas of how music groups can make a difference on climate change.

  • Ben See, composer and choir leader, will outline realistic and practical solutions for groups to consider in their day-to-day running.
  • Chris Hutchings, composer and creator of the Choirs for Climate website, can inspire with repertoire and outline the impact that a group can have.
  • Alison Burnley, project manager for Oi Musica, will discuss their Let It Grow project for COP26
  • Nina Vinther, singer and climate campaigner, will talk about creative solutions to touring and reducing a choir’s carbon footprint.

Following the event, Making Music will produce a resource for members, pulling together some of these ideas and suggestions. So do bring your own thoughts, suggestions and actions to share with others.

We'll talk about:

  • Practical measures music groups can implement

  • The impact of group action, and the ripple effect

  • How to use music and repertoire to communicate with a wider public

  • Anything else that comes up on the topic!

There will be an opportunity to ask questions via the chat function during the event.
