Come and Sing West Side Story songs

Come along to our open Come and Sing workshop where we'll be learning and performing songs from West Side Story. It's a fantastic musical, with words by Stephen Sondheim and music by Leonard Bernstein. The storyline is inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, but with a radically different backdrop. When it was first produced in the 1950s it was the first musical ever to be set in the gritty streets of New York, with the two lovers from rival gangs. The songs have really become part of our culture and include Maria, I feel Pretty and Tonight.

We'll be at St Mary's church, Rotherhithe SE16 4JE, starting at 7.30pm. No need to book, just come along, all are welcome. It's free although we'd welcome donations at the end to help cover the costs.

This event is being held as part of International Make Music Day which takes place in over 800 cities in over 200 countries and encourages everyone to make music!

The workshop will be led by Sue Heath-Downey, Musical Director of RBCS, the local community choir
