The Derwent Brass Masterworks Concert Series continues with a rare performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, in the iconic brass band arrangement by Elgar Howarth.
Derwent Brass — Derbyshire’s premier brass band, multi-award-winning ensemble, and the first brass band in history to receive a Royal Philharmonic Society Award — returns to Derby Cathedral for a spectacular evening of music, led by the band's Principal Music Director, Jack Capstaff.
Following the acclaimed success of The Planets in 2022, the band's Masterworks Concert Series continues with a rare performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, in the iconic brass band arrangement by Elgar Howarth. This performance pays special homage to Howarth, a towering figure in brass music, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
The programme also features Shostakovich’s vibrant Festive Overture, Holst’s evocative A Moorside Suite, and Golland’s moving Euphonium Concerto No. 1, with special guest soloist Adam Bokaris, Principal Euphonium of the world-famous Black Dyke Band.
An unforgettable evening of masterful music, rich sonorities, and virtuosic artistry, all set within the stunning surroundings of Derby Cathedral.
This event is supported by the John Bagley Music Trust.
