Didcot Concert Orchestra returns to Cornerstone for its fifth concert on Sunday 6 October at 4pm. Rachmaninov's rarely heard symphonic fantasy The Rock depicts with vivid orchestration the meeting of a young girl and an older man during a Christmas Eve blizzard – a piece much admired by Tchaikovsky. Wagner's opera Tannhauser describes the struggle between sacred and profane love – we play a synthesis of the opera's two most famous orchestral excerpts, with offstage vocals by Didcot Choral Society. Rimsky-Korsakov's dazzling masterpiece Scheherazade is deservedly popular – the solo violin part is played by DCO's Leader, Kate Bailey.
