On Saturday 8th June Guildford Choral will be joined by brilliant soloists soprano Madeline Boreham, contralto Alexandria Moon, tenor Samuel Stopford, bass Daniel Barrett and well-known Musical Director Jonathan Willcocks for this masterpiece in the intimate setting of Guildford Baptist Church. They will be accompanied by virtuosos Philip Scriven, organ and Sue Graham Smith, piano.
Rossini said of this sacred work that it is ‘neither small nor solemn’. Rather it is by turns boisterous intense dramatic and rhythmic: a choral tour de force. It stands out due to its unique combination of the composer’s operatic flair with the traditional elements of a Mass. Considered to be the most remarkable of his later compositions it is not one to miss.
