It’s not often you get to hear two choirs for the price of one! Choirs sometimes combine to form a large chorus for a work on a grand scale, but this is different. In this unique event, the two finest chamber choirs in Leeds - St Peter's Singers and Leeds Guild of Singers - will perform music for single choir, double choir and much in between. Experience the thrill of hearing all 70 voices singing together in works such as Rheinberger’s glorious Mass in E flat, but also enjoy the contrasts of each choir singing on their own.
It's several years since these two choirs started talking about this musical collaboration, but sadly the pandemic got in the way and they had to put those plans on hold. So we're delighted that the project has been revived and it is finally coming to fruition. The concert will take place in the beautiful setting of Leeds Minster, where both groups are based. It seems fitting now, at the start of Leeds 2023 Year of Culture, that the two finest chamber choirs in Leeds will perform together for the first time in the city's parish church.
The 2 Musical Directors - Benjamin Kirk (LGS) and Alex Woodrow (SPS) have worked closely together to create a programme that showcases the best of both choirs. You'll enjoy a broad range of choral music - from early German music of Schütz and Buxtehude, through Romantic works by Mendelssohn, Rheinberger and Rachmaninoff, to more modern works by Schnittke and Arvo Pärt.
The concert will last about an hour and refreshments will be served. Leeds Minster is not far from the main bus station and there are several pay-and-display car parks nearby. The church has plenty of space for you to sit apart from others if you wish.
