NORVIS 2024 Early Music Summer School

Recorder class having fun!

NORVIS is the full week-long early music summer school in County Durham which we’re proud to describe as one of the UK’s longest-established and friendliest.  Sign up for our 52nd summer school, NORVIS 2024 (3rd – 10th August 2024), taking place at Barnard Castle School, next door to the splendid Bowes Museum.

‘My first NORVIS and now I understand why people say it is so wonderful. The ethos is spot on and permeates every part of the course. Positivity and kindness everywhere. Encouraged me to take lessons and get serious.’

  • If you love playing early music, a week at NORVIS will enable you to progress
      • We teach and perform with recorders, viols, lutes and guitars, baroque strings, harpsichord and voices
      • Repertoire from early Renaissance to late Baroque
      • An impressive team of tutors who are specialist performers / teachers – this year the recorder tutors are joined by Annabel Knight
      • A very generous participant : tutor ratio
      • Many participants play other instruments, besides their main study instrument, including Renaissance and Baroque strings, brass and woodwind
      • Bursaries enable more individuals to participate in NORVIS
