Nottingham Youth Orchestra's 30th Anniversary Concert

James Lowe : Conductor Isata Kanneh-Mason : Piano Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No.2 from Brief Encounter Patrick Doyle: Suite from Kenneth Branagh's Henry V Saint-Saëns: Symphony No. 3 'Organ Symphony' from Babe Nottingham Youth Orchestra is 30 years old this year and we are celebrating with this special anniversary concert of music made famous in film. The programme will feature Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto (which many will know from that much loved classic, Brief Encounter) played by talented local musician, Isata Kanneh-Mason, recently a category finalist in the BBC’s 2014 Young Musician of the Year Competition. Isata is currently an undergraduate at the Royal Academy of Music, where she holds the prestigious Elton John Scholarship. Along with her talented siblings she recently participated in Britain’s Got Talent and the group stormed into the semi finals. Isata said, "I think a lot of people think classical music is boring, but we want to show them that it's not." We are thrilled to be working with Ian Smith, until recently the director of the BAFTA Award winning Television Workshop. Ian is collaborating with NYO for Patrick Doyle’s Suite from Kenneth Branagh’s Henry V. Ian’s participation makes this concert an all round celebration of Nottingham talent. The conductor, James Lowe, is an ex-NYO member and currently Artistic Advisor to the orchestra. James is the Chief Conductor of the Prussian Chamber Orchestra in Germany and the Vaasa Sinfonia in Finland. He balances his conducting schedule with his long-standing commitment to youth music. Our young musicians come from over 50 schools in Nottinghamshire and other parts of the East Midlands and over 300 children are involved in our 3 classical and 2 jazz orchestras. All of our orchestras will be joining in the celebration and we also look forward to a reunion with many of our past members.
