ERNEST TOMLINSON CENTENARY CONCERT

To celebrate the centenary of the birth of one of UK's well-known light music composers, Ernest Tomlinson, the PCO will be presenting a wide and varied programme of his  music styles and melodies. The concert will include his rarely-heard Concerto for Five, which he composed for five saxophones and orchestra, and fuses jazz, blues and light music styles into this exciting and unusual composition. The five soloists, on alto, tenor and baritone saxophones are top students from the Royal Northern College of Music, which, as the former Royal Manchester College of Music, was attended by the composer, and also the conductor today, Howard Rogerson.

The programme includes his English Overture, with many folk-tunes arrangements represented, as is his Shenendoah, Gaelic Melody and Nautical Interlude; Cinderella Waltz and Fairy Coach from his ballet score, a Waltz for a Princess, and surely, his most famous composition, The Little Serenade. The concert ends with his Concert Jig.

Not to be missed as, it is believed, the only orchestra in the country presenting a dedicated concert for his centenary!

A special concert for a special occasion!
