Five Dorset Choirs (200 voices) and a professional Orchestra join together to perform Elgar’s magnificent setting of Cardinal Newman’s mystical poem under the direction of Simon Lole.
Choirs from Swanage, Broadstone, Wareham and Briantspuddle come together with The Orlando Singers to perform this work that each individual choir could not undertake alone. The solo parts will be taken by noted professional singers.
It is seventeen years since the Guild last performed this work in a performance that is still spoken of with excitement.
On the last page of the manuscript of this work, Sir Edward Elgar wrote, “this is the best of me” and Gerontius is held to be one of the greatest of all Oratorios.
This promises to be an occasion not to be missed.
