FOR AND UNKNOWN SOLDIER - Dove and REQUIEM - Chilcott

Solihull Choral Society will be joined by Sinfonia of Birmingham, the Choristers of Derby Cathedral, Ryan Vaughan Davies (Tenor) and Rosamund Elias Turner (Soprano).

In this season of Remembrance, Solihull Choral Society presents powerful works by two leading contemporary British composers. By setting an array of moving war poetry from a compendium of writers, Jonathan Dove’s For an Unknown Soldier focuses on a single soldier’s journey through the Great War. His music, both challenging and hugely rewarding, combine varying vocal and orchestral forces to present this terrifying and painful subject afresh.

Chilcott’s Requiem provides an apt moment of reflection and Remembrance. While clearly in the mould of Faure and Durufle, this work encapsulates the composer’s idiosyncratic and encaptivating style and gives us his creative take on these well-known texts.
