Somerset County Orchestra Concert

Copland – Appalachian Spring

Grieg – Piano Concerto (soloist Elizabeth Hayley)

Saint Saens – Symphony no 3 in C minor

SCO are delighted to welcome back Elizabeth Hayley to play with us as part of the 175th anniversary celebrations of Queen’s College together with members of the Queen’s community past and present to commemorate this momentous event.

Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring has become one of the most symbolic works of the 20 century. Throughout the work Copland weaves beautiful melodies that evoke Shaker culture including the traditional song ‘Simple Gifts’.

This is followed by the ever popular Piano Concerto by Greig and Saint Saens third and last symphony. A magnificent orchestral work including organ, piano duet and harp and a percussion section made up of present and past Directors of Music of Queen’s College.
