Join Vocalis for their summer concert ‘Come into the garden’ - a musical journey through nature. Conducted by James Savage-Hanford, the choir will perform madrigals, folk songs and part songs on the theme of birds, flora and fauna, nighttime and the stars in the beautiful setting of St James’ Church, Birstwith.
The concert has been inspired by the Open Gardens Scheme and includes classic madrigals such as Gibbons ‘The Silver Swan’ and Morley ‘April is in my Mistress Face’. As our day in the garden continues we will sing Stanford’s magical ‘The Bluebird’, Finzi ‘I praise the tender flower’ and Rutter ‘As daisies pied’. As day turns to evening we will perform Esenvalds ‘Stars’ and ‘Northern Lights’ plus Gjeilo ‘Northern Lights’. Invariably there will be a shower sometime during the day allowing us to sing Somewhere over the rainbow!
We invite you all to join Vocalis in our musical stroll and spend a day in a country garden with us!
