Currently in your Platform, there is a feature that allows you to link a folder from either Google Drive or Dropbox to a song in your Song Library. The developers have now released a new capability for the MM Platform App: All the files in these linked folders can now be accessed through the App. More information about the MM Platform App can be found on our website.
If you have a set of files (e.g. PDF sheet music + MP3 learning tracks) that you want to attach to a song, then there are a couple of different ways of doing that:
- Upload each file to the to song's page (this is the most common way of doing it), or
- If the files are already sitting in a shared Google Drive or Dropbox folder, you can simply link that folder to the song.
The second option has some advantages:
- It's much faster to connect the files to the song.
- The files don't take up any space in your Platform account, meaning you're less likely to reach your account quota (1000 Meg) and require the Additional Storage option.
It looks like this, on a song's page:
DROPBOX
GOOGLE DRIVE
Up until now, the files in those linked folders could not be accessed via the App. The App developer has created a way to make this happen, so now all such files are viewable/playable within the App.
Notes
- You will need to update your copy of the App to the latest version (1.90.0).
- Box.com integration is not yet done.
- Loading each of these files in the App will be a little slower than regular files.
- Only the files in the specific linked folder can be accessed - not files in sub-folders.
If there are any issues with the above (or any aspect of the App), please send these to Platform@makingmusic.org.uk. Be sure to also advise whether your phone is Apple or Android, and the version of the App you're running.
