Blackheath Choir

We are a mixed chorus of up to 70 singers based in south-east London, celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2021. We seek to achieve high vocal standards while maintaining a friendly and inclusive social atmosphere. We present three main concerts each year, and seek to perform a wide range of classical repertoire, ranging from Baroque to contemporary and including lesser known items as well as standard works. We work closely with local professional orchestras and instrumental ensembles, and with vocal soloists.

We rehearse from 7.30-9.30 on Tuesday evenings during term time, at Kingswood Halls, Kingswood Place, Dacre Park, London, SE13 5BU, and our concerts  take place in St Margaret’s Church, Lee Terrace, London SE13 5DL, usually on Sundays.

We are seeking an experienced accompanist/repetiteur who can work closely with our Music Director, Patricia Williams, and support her by accompanying the choir and taking occasional sectionals.  The successful candidate must be prepared to attend all rehearsals or provide a suitable deputy. They may also be invited to take part in our concerts when needed, either by providing piano or continuo accompaniment, or with the occasional solo.

We are looking for someone with a high standard of musicianship who shares our commitment to supporting music making in our local community. The following skills are required:

• Excellent pianistic and accompanying skills.
• Excellent sight-reading
• Ability to support the choir by score-reading vocal parts
• Harmonisation of warm-up exercises
• The ability to take sectional rehearsals
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the Music Director and the choir as a whole.

We offer a competitive professional rate of pay by negotiation.
