Blackheath Halls Orchestra is seeking to appoint a new Musical Director to start in January 2018.

Blackheath Halls has a vibrant and thriving community engagement programme of which Blackheath Halls Orchestra is an important component.

We are looking for an experienced conductor to develop the orchestra, building on its strong foundations and celebrating its ethos of striving for the highest artistic value whilst remaining inclusive and accessible.

Blackheath Halls Orchestra has around 60 members with varied levels of skill and experience. Membership of the orchestra is not decided by audition, and therefore experience ranges from Grade 5 standard up to semi-professional and professional level.

Orchestra members have the opportunity to get involved in four or five projects each year of varying lengths and themes. Recent projects have included a performance of Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4, presenting a family concert of film music with a narrator and audience participation and accompanying a production of Guys and Dolls.

Blackheath Halls is a wholly owned subsidiary of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music.

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced conductor to develop Blackheath Halls Orchestra. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in community music making of the highest standard. S/he will engage creatively and positively with the members of the orchestra and the Blackheath Halls staff team to propose and plan future programmes, to rehearse and prepare the orchestra for performance, and to conduct concerts.
