String Players Wanted

Vacancy Type:
Application deadline:
Saturday, 1 July 2017
Description of vacancy:

We are currently looking for string players to join our friendly, well-established, central London based orchestra.

There is no formal audition process. People interested in playing with the orchestra can drop us a line at the email address below. We will then invite you to a rehearsal, allowing you the opportunity to see if you like the way we work. We usually expect potential players to be of Grade 8 standard or equivalent.

Most years we put on 3 concerts with a run of between 3 and 5 daytime/afternoon rehearsals in advance. These take place at a variety of central London venues on Saturdays or Sundays.

We perform a variety of repertoire from classical and romantic favourites, through to 20th century greats and beyond. We also enjoy discovering some of the more rarely-performed, or unjustly neglected works.

While most of our concerts take place on Saturday nights, in recent years we have presented some concerts on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, so that families can attend.

We ask players for a subscription to help us cover the mounting costs of putting on concerts and this is usually set at around £30

We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary and over the last year have performed some great music by composers such as Copland, Britten, Gershwin, Richard Strauss, Schubert, Elgar, Messiaen and Shostakovich.

If you are interested in joining us, or would like to find out more, then please do get in touch by email: BCOstrings@outlook.com

For our next concert, we are delighted to be joined by fantastic violinist Madeleine Mitchell for a performance of The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams.

This concert will take place on Saturday 1st July 2017 at St. James’s, Sussex Gardens, Paddington, London, W2 3UD, at 7:30pm.

Programme:

Rawsthorne: Divertimento

Elgar: Serenade for String Orchestra

Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending (s. Madeleine Mitchell)

Turner: Explorations of Themes of George Butterworth (s. Madeleine Mitchell)

Moeran: Sinfonietta

We look forward to welcoming you.
