String Orchestra Leader

Our leader, Rosalind Osborne is stepping down after 5 years of brilliant leadership and we are looking for someone new to guide us into our next phase. Established in 1923, the Argyle String Orchestra is Bath’s oldest amateur orchestra. We have been conducted by Adam Laughton since September 2022 and before that, Tim Robb for 30 years.

Orchestral Leader

As Orchestral Leader, you will:
•    Lead the first violin section. Provide guidance, support and nurturing of the violin section talent.
•    Help maintain cohesion and direction across all the string family.
•    Inspire our violin players’ confidence. Support and build on their enthusiasm during rehearsals and in their practice between sessions.
•    Build on the social and musical cohesion of the section. Set bowing decisions and technical guidance.
•    Collaborate closely with the conductor on musical direction across the whole orchestra.

Violas, double basses, trumpet.

We are seeking violas and double basses to balance out our string section.  We would also love another trumpet (position negotiable).  Interest from horns and violins is, as usual, very welcome!

Our very friendly amateur orchestra based in Oxfordshire rehearses on Wednesday evenings 7.30 - 9.30.  We perform two concerts a year either in Wallingford or Dorchester Abbey, both in Oxfordshire. We also hold a 'Symphony in a Day' in February/March which is open to all.
