Orchestra Leader (Paid)

Context of the Role

The Leader is a central figure in the orchestra. They must have several years of high-level experience of orchestral playing, be trained at least to conservatoire level, have a robust polished technique capable of handling the major orchestral solos, and be able to technically advise members of the string section. They must have flexibility of expression, and possess an ability to adapt to different styles and shape phrases.

The Leader must inspire confidence throughout the orchestra and have the confidence of the Artistic Director to interpret their ideas and make them sound as they imagine. This mainly affects the string sections, but may also influence the orchestra at large.

The Amati Orchestra is one of London's premier non-professional symphony orchestras. Recent performances include Stravinsky Firebird Suite, Petrushka, and The Rite of Spring, Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique, Shostakovich Symphony No 10, Holst The Planets, Richard Strauss Don Juan & Alpine Symphony, and a sold-out Cadogan Hall performance of Mahler Symphony No 2 "Resurrection".

Violin and Viola Players

The Bristol Chamber Orchestra is looking for viola players, violinists too, to join a very friendly group, giving 4 concerts per year in the Bristol area. We rehearse at the Bristol Grammar School on Wednesday evenings during term time from 7.30 to 9.30 pm with our new conductor Sebastian See-Schierenberg. We perform mainly string chamber works but our November concert is played with wind colleagues in a full symphonic concert. There are no auditions and you would be most welcome to come to a rehearsal to 'try us out' before deciding. Please visit our website for more information.

B Flat Clarinets

The East Anglian Single Reed Choir, an ensemble of clarinets and saxophones, will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year. We are looking for more B flat clarinet players to join us as we move forward. Players should be at least grade 6 with good sight reading skills.

Percussionist

We urgently need a reading percussionist and tuned percussion player to join our otherwise flourishing Concert Band.
