Competent flautist sought to complete brilliantly friendly and accomplished section in a concert wind band specialising in stage/screen/swing and 20th century pops.

Violin/Viola Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Violin (and Viola) Teacher to join our ever growing after school music school. We are looking for someone to initially cover a maternity leave every Tuesday during term time and then continue on at the school with their own pupils. We are open to teachers who are violin specialists with viola experience or those who teach violin only. There is also potential to take on chamber music coaching and theory classes if the candidate fits.

This role would directly report to the Director of Music and would work in collaboration with other teachers to progress and enhance students' development through various ensembles and classes.

Orchestra Leader (Paid)

The Leader works closely with the Artistic Director/Conductor, their colleague on the 1st violin front desk, their own section, and the other string section leaders.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Inspirationally lead the Orchestra for all concerts and rehearsals, taking responsibility for the violin solos.
  • Prepare bowings, in collaboration with the other string section leaders, and make sure the string parts are marked up at the latest by the third rehearsal for the programme, ideally prior to the first rehearsal for each concert programme.
  • To continue improving the quality of the first violin section, the Leader should have an on-going awareness of the sound of their section, and how they respond to the Conductor. Prepare and distribute first violin seating lists for each session in consultation with the Artistic Director and their desk partner.
  • The Leader can make technical recommendations not only for their section, but for any string section.
  • Work in tandem with the Orchestra Artistic Director in the preparation and performance of the music.
  • Make arrangements to provide a deputy, acceptable to the Orchestra Artistic Director, as a substitute when prevented by illness or any other unavoidable cause from leading concerts personally.
  • The Artistic Director, COO, or Executive Committee Members may consult the Leader for advice on any aspect related to the Orchestra.
