Conductor/Music Director

Gravesham Choral Society, a non-auditioned SATB choir, based in Gravesend, is currently seeking an enthusiastic new Music Director (MD) with effect from 1 September 2024, taking over from Alan Vincent who has been our MD since 1981. This is a remunerated position.

The successful candidate will be someone who

• Is an experienced choral conductor
• Has a clear understanding of vocal technique (particularly with regard to the more mature voice)
• Has good communication skills
• Is able to challenge the choir with new ideas and repertoire
• Has had some experience of conducting an orchestra and working with soloists
• Is keen to work in a collaborative manner with the choir and committee 
• Is able to develop the less-experienced while also engaging the more accomplished
• Has a sense of humour!
• Is keen to help encourage the recruitment of new members and has ideas relating to this
• Ideally, has contacts with other professional singers and instrumentalists.
